Fay, Fay, Go Away?!

Gooooooood morning and happy Friday!

I feel about 100 times better this morning than I did last night after sleeping for about 9 1/2 hours last night :). Sometimes a little sleep is all you need to feel better! Like I said in the comments, I finished the Charles Martin book, “Where the River Ends”, but I DON’T recommend it because its soooo depressing!!!!!! I seriously sobbed throughout the entire last 100 pages (uh let’s be honest, the entire book!). It was such a tragic, depressing love story and sometimes I like those but this one just made me really sad. So don’t read it unless you want a good cry I guess!

It’s STILL raining outside (fay fay go away!!!) but I’m hoping the sun will break through tomorrow. The weather channel is calling for more rain and tropical storm conditions all day today with rainfall up to one inch (AGAIN) and gusty winds up to 35 miles an hour. When will this ever end?!

So, again this morning, I pulled over the ol’ rain jacket and hat and went to the gym. Today was my favorite—leg and ab day! I like this day the best because I know my legs are strong and I love working them to their max. Here’s what I did:

couple minutes on the treadmill to warm up

3 sets of split squats (1 leg up on bench behind you, other leg lunges down) with 10 lb weights. 12 reps

3 sets of leg press. 70 lbs. 12 reps

3 sets of dipping bridge pose

3 sets of hamstring curls. 60 lbs. 15 reps.

3 sets of bicycle crunches. 20 reps.

3 sets of crunches with legs up at 90. 20 reps.

2 sets of hanging crunches. 12 reps.

10 minutes on bike with resistance cranked up on hill mode.

Before I left, I had the other half of my clif bar from yesterday:

And when I got back I made my faaaaaavorite breakfast! Smooth, cool and creamy overnight oats :). I used 1/2 cup oats (soaked overnight with 1/2 cup water and a pinch of salt), spoonful of almond butter, 1 chobani, 1/2 banana and cinnamon. Mmmmmmmm

img_2046.JPG

This bowl made me so happy! I’m all out of chobani now though and need to get more asap! I’ve quickly become quite addicted to them…

For lunch today I made and packed my favorite: brown rice and lentils. These are SO good, easy and quick to warm up in the micro (and them dump spicy srircha sauce over). It is quite a filling dish and a perfect ratio of protein to complex carbs. With it, I packed a string cheese and an apple.

I really don’t think I need a morning snack this morning because as of right now (and its 8:30), I’m super full from my oats. I have some emergency almonds in my purse that I’ll eat if I get hungry but I like to eat lunch around 11:30 so I think I can make it til then. These oats are super filling!

But for a snack this afternoon I am packing this Pure Protein Bar!

After seeing how Gina raved about these on her blog (and she’s a personal trainer!), I thought I must give them a try. I haven’t been able to find them anywhere though until finally, yesterday, I found them at Wal-Mart of all places!!! I know these are not as “natural” as I like to make my snacks (they do have some sugar alcohol in them so if you are sensitive to that, stay clear), but I like to try new things and what do I always say? Everything in moderation is okay! These might work for an occasional snack treat. I will do a complete product review of these bars, but I probably will not get to it until tomorrow since I’m going to rush my butt to school early tonight because I missed last night.

Okay—time to get my butt in the shower and to work. Have a wonderful Friday y’all! The weekend is very close. Unfortunately I won’t get to see the boy this weekend….tomorrow I have to make a little road trip to Vero Beach to sign paperwork at the new job!

hey jenna, glad you are feeling better. it seems like you have a lot of headaches/migranes. do you think maybe your diet is causing these?
you have a lot of favorites, too. its cute 🙂

    Jenn,

No. I’ve been to dozens of doctors, had my diet analyzed and all that yada yada yada. Genetics is one of the number one causes of migraines and I’m plagued with bad genes on my mom’s side. Everyone in my family is horrible migraine sufferers. I’ve had migraines since I was about 10 years old :(. I wish it was something as simple as changing my diet but I’ve changed my diet every which way (eating meat, not eating meat, cutting out dairy completely, cutting out caffeine completely…) and I still get them.

There is nothing like a good night’s sleep. For me that’s about all rain is good for– for some reason I sleep better when it’s pouring.

Have you ever tried the Clif Builder’s Bar? I know that is high is protein and I wonder how it would compare (taste & nutrition-wise) to some of the less natural protein bars. I haven’t done any experimenting with high-protein bars so I’ll be interested to see your review!

Hi Jenna, i am glad you feel a bit better!! Once again, i have to compliment you on your oatmeal!!! Do you use the plain chobani in the oatmeal or a fruit flavor??

    Thanks!

You eat a lot of bars. Doesn’t that get expensive?
I’m putting kiwi on my grocery list after seeing it in yesterday’s post.

    Michelle,

I use the plain flavor just to save all those extra grams of sugar! I like the fruit kinds but would eat that for a dessert more than a mix in. I’ve grown quite a taste for plain yogurt—just something you have to get used to!

    Runjess,

Hmm..I dont think so? I probably buy 3 bars a week at the grocery store and it adds up to like $4? I just have this big stash in my pantry that’s been sitting there forever. And when you work during the day and can’t make a decent snack from the fridge, you can’t beat a bar for convenience! Keeps me going with my crazy schedule…

Talk to me about this oatmeal! So you just soak the oats overnight, and eat them cold? Do you cook them at any point? I am fascinated.

    Toni Jo,

NO cooking!!! It’s a wonder but true! I highly recommend them…! And with the addition of the greek yogurt, a single bowl has 21 grams of protein! 🙂

happy friday!! glad you’re feeling better! we’ve had pretty much the same breakfasts for the past two days 😀

yeahhhh pure protein!! i hope you like it- the s’mores is pretty good but the peanut butter marshmallow eclipse is definitely the best 🙂 you’re right about the bars not being very natural (crazy list of ingredients) but i love the fact that they taste awesome and have so much protein. can’t wait to hear what you think!

    have a wonderful day!

Glad you’re feeling better jenna! I struggle with migraines as well, especially during “that time of the month” so I would LOVE to know how you cope with them and if you find any miracle cure!! I stick with excedrin and rest because I agree, the prescription stuff is not worth it!! Have a great Friday!! Sorry you don’t get to see Ryan 🙁

Pure protein bars rule, but the non-chocolate flavored ones I find gag-inducing. Like the smores most.

    Glad you’re feeling better 🙂

I am not a big fan of the pure protein bars, it leaves a weird after taste I think. Some other higher protein bars I have found that taste better: EAS makes a wide variety that are pretty good, Clif makes a protein bar that’s decent. I’d be interested to see what you think of the pure protein though. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right flavor yet!

I love brown rice and lentils…I thought I was the only one eating that combo. Question for you…do you make your lentils? I have been buying them at Trader Joe’s already cooked. I was thinking it would be much cheaper to make them myself but just what type of lentil to use. I tried a batch once..they were delish but really turned to mush. Just curious..thanks.

    cb,

It is SOOOO much cheaper to buy the lentils dry!!! I buy them in bulk and it’s only about a dollar for a big bag of ’em. I highly suggest it! You must have bought red lentils when they turned to mush because green lentils hold their shape quite well. Both are delicious though!

Yep. That is what I had. Ok, I am going to Whole Foods today after work and will pick up some…along with I hope some of this Greek yogurt I hear so much about!!! I am not sure if they carry it in San Francisco…if not I will aks the store manager to carry it! THanks for the answer back. Have a great weekend.
