Greetings!
Sorry for not returning last night—I ended up going out with friends and not getting home until almost 1 a.m. I figured y’all wouldn’t mind waiting till morning 😉
As I type this I am trying to hold back profanity because my internet just keeps going failing every two minutes. I have one of those Verizon aircards but for some reason it has just been malfunctioning this week and is driving me up the wall. Ugh!!!
Anyways (deep breath), yesterday’s snack was a yogurt with 1/4th cup Ezekiel and pom seeds—

And then yesterday evening, I met Hardy for a bite at Zin. I eat at Zin waaaaay too much….but it’s just sooo good! Hardy brought this Chardonnay that “would freak me out”. It did.

I’m just going to say it, I really don’t like Chardonnay all that much. Hardy saw this as a challenge and has been talking about “Chardonnay that will freak me out” since September. And I actually liked this one! Here’s a pretty blurry shot:

It’s from Salinia and the winery is right in Santa Rosa. Not very oaky at all…funky!
Food-wise, I started off with a salad with the dressing on the side:

And then had the chicken!

I’ll tell you what. Chef Jeff Mall knows how to cook chicken right. He uses Rocky chickens, which are far superior to any other chicken I’ve ever tried and serves it with a cranberry chutney, green beans with bacon and mashed sweet potatoes. I NEVER order chicken at restaurants because, to me, it’s just something easy I can prepare at my own house. However, this was probably the best chicken I’ve ever had. Zin knows chicken. Obviously.
After we ate we met up with a couple friends, went to a bar and then ended up back at Hardy’s house laughing until the wee hours. This morning I had a bowl of overnight oats:

And I’m getting ready to go head to Bikram then meet BethT and her hubby for lunch! It’s their anniversary so naturally they wanted to come to Healdsburg 🙂
Happy Saturday!

December 19, 2009 at 8:42 amOy! My internet has been doing that too. It makes me want to rip my hair out.
Zin sounds fantastic! Especially the mashed sweet potatoes 🙂
Glad you enjoyed your evening.
Beautiful breakfast, too!

December 19, 2009 at 8:47 amI just started Bikram yesterday and I was wondering how early you eat breakfast before you go to class? Also, do you manage to drink a lot of water before the morning class? I went to a 2pm class, had last eaten at 11:30am, had already had over 60oz of water before heading in, but I was fighting neausea and a passing out feeling soooooo bad for about half the class (basically all the standing poses). I’d like to do the 9:30 class, but I don’t think I’d be able to hydrate enough before going. Any details you can share on your practice would be awesome!

December 19, 2009 at 9:05 amJane,
it takes awhile to get used to bikram if you have never been before…trust me! The feelings that you had are pretty normal for your first time. I usually eat 2 hours before I go in…I drink water before but I don’t worry about it..I’ll just drink a couple glasses or something. don’t be too hard yourself–it honestly just takes awhile for the body to get used to the heat!

December 19, 2009 at 8:54 amI’m not a fan of Chardonnay or any white wine really. I’m more of a red wine kind of gal 🙂

December 19, 2009 at 9:08 amInternet issues frustrate me beyond belief…my poor roommate knows to stay away (and get apple care on the phone ASAP) every time the wireless starts acting funky. I’m trying to be more zen about it though…
Love all of the POM seed goodness 🙂

December 19, 2009 at 10:38 amThe food looks good, good that you enjoyed your night too. Life is too short to sit and not get out and meet people and laugh I keep telling myself, and hey! You are a machine girl! I cannot fathom being a walker + yogi daily, you should be proud of all you are capable of. Just walking on occasion is a treasure 🙂

December 19, 2009 at 10:44 amCute pics Jenna, Looks like I might have to try that Chard. Normally I’m not a big fan ( b/c of the Oak ) and usually stick to Sauv Blanc but I’m always searching. Happy to see you are having so much fun in Cali 🙂 Aloha!

December 19, 2009 at 10:44 amNow you’re just making me hungry. Rocky chickens…yummm. I am a Chardonnay lover!!! Kendall Jackson, Hess and Geyser Peak are some of my faves.

December 19, 2009 at 12:56 pmI still have yet to try overnight oats. I keep meaning to, but I forget at night! With the freezing weather we’re having here I guess that hot is more appealing.

December 19, 2009 at 2:41 pmI have infinite patience with children, but severely limited patience with technology…the internet in particular. I understand your frustration. That chicken both sounds and looks delicious. As does your amazingly garnished salad.
Glad you had a fun night! Laughing until the wee hours is a sign of a life being well lived.

December 19, 2009 at 4:09 pmFunny, my bosses verizon aircard totally screwed up and BROKE two of his computers this week. Crazy and random……or IS it!?!? hehe

December 19, 2009 at 4:33 pmI like to order stuff I wouldn’t think to make myself when eating out. So fun.

December 19, 2009 at 5:31 pmI’m not a big fan of Chardonnay’s either, but I had one a couple of weeks ago at a blind tasting that was actually decent. I guessed that it was a pinot grigio – a total guess since I don’t know that much about wines. It was called Iron Horse Unoaked Chardonnay.
The second wine we tasted was also a chardonnay and it tasted completely different than the first one, more like most of the chardonnays I’ve tasted.
Paige@ RunningAroundNormal
December 19, 2009 at 5:32 pmI looove Chardonnays in the summer. However, in the winter, I’m all about the pinot noir.

December 19, 2009 at 6:45 pmIt is funny because I always make chicken at home and usually order it. However, I tend to order more fish if it is available when I go out

December 19, 2009 at 7:33 pmman I didn’t think there was a wine that you didn’t like!
Kate
December 19, 2009 at 7:36 pmI don’t really like chardonnay either. There are a few unoaked ones from New Zealand that I do think are good – Kim Crawford is one that is easy to find. I also had a nice one in Calistoga recently, at the August Briggs winery.
