Breakfast

Last Day in Paradise

Wow, Monday morning already?! It’s my last morning here in Vero Beach, as I will be traveling home to Tampa this afternoon for the remainder of the week. This morning I woke up early, ate half a banana with some almond butter and hit the gym here for a 30 minute total body circuit. I started off by waking my body up by running 5 minutes on the treadmill, then did curling lunges (lunge down and curl up weights), resistance squats, pull ups, chest press, hip abductor machine and some free weights to work my triceps.

When I got back to my suite I made some oats using almond butter, hemp milk, water and banana and had some hot green tea alongside it. I took my breakfast outside and enjoyed my last morning of this gorgeous scenery!

I’m packing up right now and getting ready to go into the kitchen for the morning. I plan to work from 9:30-12:00 then hit the road.  My lunch post might come late today because I have to check out of the room before I go into work so I have to have everything already packed and in the car. I’m either going to make another almond butter/jam sammie for lunch OR stop and pick up a sammie on the way at this gourmet store I like. I’ll have to see how I feel when the time comes.

Have a great start of the week!

**I posted this on yesterday’s breakfast post, but I never got a response so I’m posting it again**

    Hey Jenna,

I have been reading this blog for several months now, but this is my first time commenting. I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful job you do!

I have a few questions for Jenna or anyone else who knows. Does anyone know of any good whole wheat wrap brands? All of the ones I find have lard or some type of trans fat listed in their ingredients.

I was also wondering if anyone knows of a good hummus recipe?

The last question is….does anyone have Jenna’s Swiss Oatmeal recipe saved that could post it here? It used to be in the recipe section, but was taken down before I ever printed it out. Thanks everyone!

Laura, Ezekiel makes a good whole grain wrap that I buy. Check it out.

Laura – I go back and forth between the Ezekiel wraps, and rudi’s 7 grain and flax wraps. 🙂

Laura, if you go to any health food store, there will probably be 5-ish kinds of wraps without partially hydrog oil or lard, and likely with a good grain profile.

    Hey Jenna!
Thanks so much for your sweet comment! To answer your question, I have been eating completely vegan lately, but it’s been mostly due to circumstances (my family is Eastern orthodox, so we’re in a fasting period right now of no meat or dairy- perfect timing, right?) I had trouble giving up fish too, but the way I see it, any fish that swims and has a backbone is an animal jsut like a cat or a dog, so I don’t think I could eat fleshy fish. I’m not sure about shellfish- shrimp, clams, etc, because they don’t have backbones. I’ve been meaning to research the level of awareness they possess, as well as the fishing process (if it’s cruel, pollutes the sea, etc.) So I’ll have to decide how I feel about it. If I come across anything interesting, I’ll be sure to let you know 🙂
    Have a safe trip today!

I had a question brought on by yesterdays truffles… The bright green colour of pistacio’s always intrigues me, but I’ve never tried them. This got me thinking about all the different kinds of nuts that I haven’t tried yet and wondering if anyone knew of a site that might describe or compare the taste of different nuts? I know this is a really strange question, but I’m on a student budget and don’t want to buy a big package of nuts and not like them!
