Lunch

Meet Dexter

First of all–thank y’all so much for all the well wishes for my grandfather. My mom read all your comments too and was very touched. You all are too kind! He is doing okay–they moved him from intensive care to a regular hospital room and are just watching him for awhile. I guess it was not a very severe heart attack, but it still def. was one and they are keeping close watch on him.

Other big news!!! I adopted a kitten! I’ve been thinking about getting one for a long time now and especially since my roommate left and I’m all alone, now seemed like the right time. I found the perfect one this morning at the humane society with my mom and immediately named him Dexter 🙂 Dexter is black, 6 months old and is very playful. I bought him lots of little cat toys and a “kitty condo” Ryan is going to assemble shortly. I’ve always loved black cats—I grew up with two growing up and had a fondness for them ever since.

Here’s some pictures of my new baby!

Lunch was quick and light because we were in the middle of running errands for the new kitty. My mom and I stopped quickly at a health food store and I picked up some little containers of fun things along with a wheat pita and I ate in the car (hence the photos of food on my thighs).

I got some spicy kale and avocado salad

hummus (not pictured, sorry!)

and a pita

When we got home later I snacked on a big red apple.

Unfortunately my dinner was canceled for tonight 🙁 I’m pretty bummed about it but I guess a bunch of the girls couldn’t make it so we are going to reschedule. Ryan is going to a boxing match tonight because we are friends with Antonio Tarver (for those in the boxing world) and he got ring-side tickets. Unfortunately we both don’t have ring-side tickets and while I could sit in the general admission area, I opted not to. I think I’ll just play with Dexter instead.

I’m glad your grandpa is doing ok! Yay for a new kitten! I’m actually really allergic to cats, but it will be nice to have some company around the empty apartment. Have fun playing with Dexter 🙂

Funny coincidence! I grew up with two black cats as well. One of them always wears a red collar just like the one dexter is wearing. Her real name is cindy, but the whole family took to calling her miss red, and the name stuck. anyway, happy saturday, and enjoy your new little friend!

Jenna, I am BEYOND elated that you DID end up adopting a cat!! Wishing you and Dexter many happy years, as a little family :0)

Ironically, I just finished eating kale & avocado, haha – looks like a delicious lunch!!

hey Jenna! Sorry about your grandfather, best wishes for a quick recovery.

Your kitty is so cute! I’ve been wanting one myself (my dog actually gets along great with cats) but I’ve been holding out til I move.

I’m so sorry tonight was cancelled-I was really bummed I couldn’t make it. I’ve been on the road for the past few weeks to Savannah and back and forth between Jax, Amelia Island and Tally so it’s been crazy. Gas is really adding up quick! My monthly budget is way out of whack-we set our wedding date too so that’s been a big part of it!

I really had a lot of fun last time though and I really want to try the vegan restaurant!! Have fun with your new baby tonight and I hope we can all meet up again soon!

Dexter is adorable!!! It makes me so happy to hear you adopted him! (there are so many animals out there who need good homes)

So glad to hear that your grandfather is making a nice recovery. I’m sure he feels incredibly lucky to have you as his granddaughter 🙂

Bummer about dinner tonight, but I hope you take the opportunity to just relax and hopefully catch up on some much needed rest!

    Have a wonderful night!

what an adorable kitty!!!!! my roomates and i reallllly want one – but we’re afraid we won’t have time to care for one 🙁 plus i don’t think RAs would like that situation in a dorm (although i know people who sneak in pets!). i’m so happy for your family about your grandfather and i hope he continues to get healthy.

    Hey Jenna,

Just wanted to say I’m glad your grandfather has been moved out of ICU and is recovering. I hope you and your family are also holding up okay.
Too bad about the dinner, but as others have said, at least you get to play with your kitten! Seems like he might be said if you left him on his first night. 🙂 Plus, sounds like you need the rest, girl! Get to bed early tonight!

Aww, Dexter is adorable! Cats are great to keep you company. My little Tarzan just curled up on my lab while I was watching my movie earlier!
Your lunch looks so yummy and healthful, I wish I had more health food stores that carried such nice salads around my house!

I hope your Grandfather continues to improve, have a great Saturday evening (even though your dinner was canceled you can still have a nice night I’m sure)!
