On The Mat

Hey y’all

I’m going to preface this post by saying I’ve had a bit of a rough day…in case you picked up my “mood” from my post. But, alas, as my mom always says: everything looks better in the morning 🙂

I hung out at Barnes and Noble all morning, picking out a new poetry journal and drinking Awake tea. Came home and made an Amy’s California burger pita for lunch:

Of course there was hummus, goat cheese and blue corn chips involved as well. Obviously.
Snack was trail mix. I swear I’m addicted.

And then I hit up my favorite Sunday afternoon yoga class. Boy, did I ever walk in with a bad attitude and just dropped it ALL on the mat and had the strongest/best practice I’ve had in a really long time. I sweat out so much junk and it felt aaaaaamazing…my favorite Beatles song (Let it Be) was playing during a reallyyyyy long frog pose at the end and it cleaned me right up. I swear, yoga cures everything. Really.
However, I still wasn’t up to cooking dinner so I just ate a bowl of cereal when I got home…don’t be mad, I know I’m lame.

As usual, this is a mix of Ezekiel, puffins and nature’s path granola in almond milk. Hit the spot.
Turning on a movie right now and going to go to bed really early. Goodnight!

I remember when I was having a horrible night the other day. I turned off the lights, just my computer w/ yogadownloads for 1 hour. I cried the first five minutes in child’s pose and then kicked ass. It was one of the most powerful yoga sessions I had.

    Keep warrioring on 🙂

It’s amazing what yoga can do. So sorry you were having a rough day..I hate those days. It’s a beautiful thing to have an outlet like yoga or writing to just let it all pour out. I write poetry/music and journal as well and it’s so freeing to release it all on paper. I’m a yoga-newbie but It’s like therapy, I leave feeling so loose, free and happy. Love it.

Sunday must have been a good yoga day all around (I had an amazing session yesterday)! I don’t know what it is about the heat but I feel so much better after one of those classes as opposed to a regular yoga class. Maybe the heat distracts? I don’t know- either way yesterdays class was so eye-opening for me I actually wrote a whole blog entry about it. 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

Glad the yoga helped, I am about to go practice now. I have started a personal challenge for myself to practice yoga everyday for the next year…starting today. I am reading the book “meditations from the mat” by Rolf Gates and it is so inspiring. He studied with Baron Baptiste and has quite the story to tell. You should check it out. It is 365 entries to be read each day of the year.

Hope you’re feeling better this morning! I agree, yoga can be a great mood lifter, forcing you to focus on something besides your problems for an hour or 90 minutes. It’s so cleansing too b/c you’ve worked hard, but without the stress of something like running.

Btw, glad you got back out on the road for a few miles pain-free!

      Veronique,

I would suggest going into a class rather than doing something online so you can get the postures down with the help of a teacher. You don’t want to hurt yourself by doing them wrong!

Sometimes cereal for dinner is just the best thing. When I’m feeling down, I just give into it for the rest of the day, and promise myself that tomorrow I will have a new, positive outlook. That way, I get a chance to feel bad for myself and do what I want to feel better, but there’s a limit to it, because tomorrow truly is a new day!
