Dessert/ Dinner

Pasta and Bread, Oh My!

Ahhh Angels and Demons was SO GOOD!!!

I’m actually incredibly glad that I hadn’t finished the book because the movie had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. So many twists and turns…..it was seriously the best movie I’ve seen in awhile.

After the movie I went over to my parent’s house for dinner. I had a glass of pinot grigio while I helped my mom cook—

On the menu tonight was one of my very favorites— pasta with pan seared scallops in a light tomato cream sauce. This is a very old Cooking Light recipe my mom has been making for years and I just adore it. The cream sauce is light but with a touch of richness and I love anything with scallops!

Here was my plate with pasta, french bread and green beans:

Have I mentioned my mom is the best cook ever?! I hate when girls get all fussy about eating bread with pasta. Its one of my biggest pet peeves actually. I mean come on. If you want it, eat it. Life is too short. Let’s get real.

Dessert was the LAST sliver of Veggie Girl blondies (sniff sniff). I think I am going to attempt to bake a batch of these bad boys this week. They won’t be as good as when Liz baked them for me, I’m sure, but I gotta have my daily dose somehow!

I’m going to catch up on some of your blogs before heading to bed! Tomorrow I am looking forward to my 8:30 spinning class and a hair cut later in the day. Yes, I know I just got my hair cut (actually I got my hair cut the day my brother died. Ouch) but now that I don’t have to wear a hair net anymore I sort of want more of a style to it. Plus I just love getting my hair done. It makes me feel so pretty and fresh.

See you in the morning, friends! Sleep tight πŸ™‚

i totally agree about the pasta and bread!! i LIVE for pasta and cant get enough of it. i just think its important to eat good food for the sake of it. forget the “low fat low carb low taste” stuff, i want yummy food! and if that means i have to go for a longer run tomorrow morning, so be it!
i’ve just started reading your blog and i love it so much. i’m also training for a half marathon, mine is on May 31st! ahh! i’m really excited though, it’s going to be awesome πŸ™‚ good luck with your training! i get shin splints too, ughhh. i’m not sure if you know this stretch already, but it helps me: stick your legs straight in front of you (on a chair or on the floor) and flex your feet up towards your shins as far as you can and hold for 20 seconds. then point your toes away from you as far as you can and hold for 20 seconds and repeat a few times. do this as often as you can and it might help! i do it while on the computer.
thanks for such a great blog, and i also just wanted to say that i am in awe of your strength of character. you’re so inspiring πŸ™‚

    Jenna,
I love anything with scallops as well, and yes, your mom does sound like an amazing cook. I’ve always thought so. I’ve made VeggieGirl’s blondies 3 times now, and not one of my batches has tasted as good as the ones VeggieGirl sent us.

Enjoy your haircut, and I hope you have a good week!

Can you tell me why you like pepperment tea so much? As opposed to green or any of the other kinds…is it just a flavor thing or does pepperment tea have other health benefits?

I think that eating bread with pasta is entirely cultural. Where I come from it is considered “cheap” to do it…as in, there is not enough pasta to actually feed everybody so bread is needed.

Amen about eating pasta and bread. I know a few people who are so anti-bread, it’s like they are afraid of it. It makes me crazy!

I can’t wait to see the movie! I loved the book! And I love Ewan McGregor.

I eat bread and pasta all the time. It’s actually one of the easiest foods on my tummy. Anyway, everything in moderation πŸ™‚ I’ve never been a big fan of the low crab craze!
Glad to hear Angels and Demons is good. I read the book 3 years ago I think so I really don’t remember it at all, hopefully I’ll be on the edge of my seat too!

Dude, I eat tons of grains/bread every day (in a well balanced diet of course) and look fine. I think the whole “carbs are the enemy” thing is blown out of proportion a bit. There’s a reason why the food pyramid suggests so many grains, energy! πŸ™‚

  • Amanda

One of my girlfriends is like that – no carbs. She probably wouldn’t even eat pasta, let alone bread! I just think it’s an unhealthy approach to living. It’s a diet, and if I know anything, dieting doesn’t work. Being balanced does!

“I hate when girls get all fussy about eating bread with pasta. Its one of my biggest pet peeves actually. I mean come on. If you want it, eat it. Life is too short. Let’s get real.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I definitely used to one of those girls. Then it dawned on me….if I died tomorrow, no one is going to say “she was the perfect weight and size”, even if I was. Life isn’t about size and weight, it is about happiness and enjoying as much of life as you can.
