Breakfast

Too Short

Well, the week has started again and I guess that means my 12 hour weekend is now over. Ryan is getting ready to go to work and I’m going to go on a run in a little bit then gather my stuff together and get back to Orlando…I have a quiz tonight in class and need to study! This “weekend” felt wayyy too short. πŸ™ For breakfast this morning I tried out my new Nature’s Path Hemp Oatmeal (1.5 packets) made with 1/2 almond milk and 1/2 water with a banana. It was really really good! I like this one better than the flax kind, although I don’t think there’s too much of a difference, taste-wise.

Have a good Monday morning!

Good morning Jenna! I agree on the weekend “shortness,” I’m still exhausted from last week and these next few days are going to be crazy busy. At least you had a good breakfast to start out with :). I tried quinoa this morning to replace my usual oatmeal (remember that I started the habit because of you!) and it was kind of disappointing. I think I just prefer peanut butter and banana and I made the quinoa with an apple after looking through many recipes. Oh well! Anyway, I had a question about your oatmeal packets… is there a reason to switched to them from homemade or are you just trying something new? Thanks and I hope your week flies by!

Sorry to hear it went by too fast. It seems to happen when we least expect it!

I used to be a big fan of the instant oatmeal from Nature’s Path, but then I realized that it costs far less to just buy oatmeal in bulk and make it myself. However their stuff is great when you’re in a pinch and tastes amazing. Have you tried hemp seed nuts? They’re delicious!

So….I went to Whole Foods this weekend! We had to drive two hours to get there but I LOVED it! On my grocery was: Hempmilk, steel cut oats, almond butter, organic sugar in the raw, fage yogurt, almonds and a few other things. I REALLY wanted to try those veggie burgers but I decided to wait b/c I can get those at my reg grocery store. I made the oatmeal this morning with some water and hempmilk…yummo! I thought a 1/4 oats wouldn’t be enough so I made about 1/2 c oats….it turned out I made way too much and couldn’t finish them. Oh well….I mixed some almond butter with it too. Oh and I got the Ezekial 4:9 almond cereal…I didn’t like it too much. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the rest of it.

Hope you have a great day Jenna and everyone!

Lisa-a 2 hour drive to W.F..wow!!! where do you live? I can’t believe that there’s not one closer, I’m just spoiled by how accessible there are down here in Austin :)I’m glad it was worth it, sounds like you stocked up on some good things! Try the Ezekial 4:9 cereal again, it’s delish if you ask me! It’s good heated too…just pour in some hemp milk and nuke in the microwave for a yummy, nutty flavor. I top mine with a nice banana and enjoy…very filling but not heavy and weighty.

Trust me you’re lucky to have a WF near you. I live in Indiana and we do have a Trader Joe’s and Wild Oats but they are both more than an hour and a half from where I live. My closest health food/natural store is more than 40 minutes away. The only source I have for organics and vegetarian products is a 10’X15′ section of my local grocery store and that is a huge improvement from the past. We still have very little organic produce here, but the frozen/dry healthier things are becoming a little more prevalent.

Ah yes, as the old saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun” – which is why the weekend always seems to just fade away!! Even though a new week has begun, I do hope that it goes well for you – best of luck with your quiz tonight!! “See” you at lunch!! :0)

Stacy I live in Indiana too! I live about 2 hrs away from Chicago and we stayed the weekend there so we had to hit up WF there!

HK….I’ll try the cereal again…I WANT to like it! haha it was like $4 and some change for a little box! lol The microwave idea sounds great!

Oh and I got some of those Lara bars…I’m excited to try them!

I’ve thought about hitting up the Trader Joe’s in Chicago as well. Unfortunately, we usually take the train if we’re going downtown and carrying groceries several blocks never seems like fun (especially if I have shopping bags too!). Maybe I’ll just have to make a food related trip πŸ™‚

Stacy…I live in the South Bend area and normally take the South Shore into Chicago too (assuming that’s the only train into Chicago from Indiana)! Where about do you live?

hello to all the chicagoians! the TJ’s is easiest if you take the red line to grand then just take one of those inexpensive wheeled buggies with you…I know its kinda crazy rolling it down the street but it sure makes the commute on the el with groceries more doable!

Lisa — my grandparents live in the South Bend areas (Granger)!

Jenna that oatmeal looks so tasty. I’ve started having it for breakfast practically every day and it’s such a good way to begin my morning. That sucks about your short weekend, but be sure to enjoy today while you can!

For the record, even though Jenna tried extremely hard not to laugh in protest of my movie pick Super Bad without her consultation (its only fair, I watched atonement with her), she definitely thought it was funny!

I live just north of Lafayette. If I drive to Chicago it’s a ~2 or 2 1/2 hour drive if I don’t hit traffic. We usually drive up to Chesterton and take the South Shore from there because even though it adds a little time to the trip, it’s comforting knowing I won’t be sitting on the expressway at a dead stop!

Austin ladies – I went to UT in Austin and was SO spoiled by the Whole Foods on Lamar! Even though downtown Chicago has great grocery shopping, I still don’t think anything compares to the WF headquarters – amazing! I’m actually applying for a professional job there right now because I have so much faith in the brand and want to get back to Austin!

Has anyone tried Weil by Nature’s Path Chocolada Almond Hot Oatmeal? It sounds really yummy.

For people who don’t have access to health food stores, amazon has a lot of organic products available online, often with discounts and free shipping.

    Happy Monday everyone.

    Hello everyone,
I posted this on Kath’s blog too but I wanted to ask you guys as well…
my cousin told me yesterday that 2 ounces of pork takes 2 weeks to digest, and it lines your digestive tract so that nutrients cannot be absorbed…I have never heard anyhting like this before now, but I wanted to know if anyone else had and whether or not it’s true?? If it is, I am never eating pork again, gross!

    melissa –
i had ordered the chocolada almond oatmeal online, and unfortunately, i didn’t like it at all.. the almond taste was extremely prominent, and i barely tasted any chocolate. but then again, i’m not a huge almond fan, so maybe you’d like it. i just thought the oatmeal didn’t have much flavor and was quite bland; to me, there’s nothing like oatmeal right off of the stove! haha πŸ™‚

I can not find Hemp Milk anywhere!!!! Is it refridgerated? Where do you usually find it?! THanks!

I haven’t had any luck finding Hemp Milk at stores other than Whole Foods. Not a problem finding soy, rice and almond milk though if that will work for you. By the way, where in Texas do you live? I am originally from a small town in Texas and know what it’s like not to have good grocery stores close by.

I live in kingwood. the closest WF is somewhere Downtown, which I have been to once a long time ago because I do not really want to drive all the way down there for a grocery trip! Bummer though!
