Hey hey 🙂
I’m in such a happy mood today. The sun is (well, was) shining, I got a manicure (woops), I did yoga and ate pizza for dinner. Love, love, love.
Yoga was awesome—since I’ve really started to up my cardio for my century bike as well as 12K race training (want to do this in May!), I’m finding I look to yoga less as a workout (read: I don’t PUSH myself so hard all the time) and more as a moving meditation to center myself and stretch out my achy muscles. Tonight’s class was an hour flow, which is a bit gentler than power. Basically, we move slower but hold the postures longer…it really helps ground me because I tend to fly through sun salutations in power classes sometimes without really paying any attention to form. The slower paced classes really help me with posture, form and alignment…and who doesn’t love to hold warrior two and crescent lunge for minutes on end? 😉
When I got home from yoga, I made a pizza. Tuesday nights are my new carbo-loading night (I rationalize this so well) because Wednesdays are my long bike ride day and I need all the energy I can get. I got some pizza dough from Trader Joe’s the other day and topped it simply with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and diced red bell pepper. So easy…I need to get this dough more often!

March 23, 2010 at 9:16 pmTJ’s pizza dough is simply the best. You can’t be 99 cents!! I always say I want to try and make my own but then I just go to TJ’s and buy one 🙂
Jicama is amazing. I ate a huge one the size of my head almost every day when I studied abroad in Mexico. My host family thought I was nuts.

March 23, 2010 at 9:21 pmThat pizza looks delish!! I started a Pizza Club in San Francisco with my best friend…it’s not really so much a CLUB as it is an excuse to try out new pizza places.

March 23, 2010 at 9:23 pmI love pizza as a carbo loading meal. I’d rather have that than pasta any day for carbo loading. Looks like your pizza was perfect!

March 23, 2010 at 9:23 pmWhat do you do with the REST of your pizza?!?
Morgan @ Life After Bagels
March 23, 2010 at 9:30 pmDarn your pizza photos. I have a 2 1/2 pound sicilian pizza in my freezer that is calling my name. The only problem is that it’s for my bf’s dinner on Saturday night, oh that and it’s a sausage pizza and I’m vegetarian.

March 23, 2010 at 9:51 pmLove TJ’s pizzas. Today missed American Apparel in SF, looked up on line, lots of stores including in Napa. I love black leggings & needed some—very popular in Paris. Wound up doing a post-
and add the AA link. http://tinyurl.com/oe4ezq
Now am dying for a pizza and manicure—on Fillmore in SF there’s a good pizza place on corner of California and Fillmore down a blk from La Med and a very good manicurist on left side up a couple blocks towards the Bay. Manicures in The City are $8 outside can be $35…as they are here–forget that!

March 23, 2010 at 10:24 pmhahaha! I’ve become the same way where in my mind yoga is “not a workout”. Sometimes a 3 mile run feels like it’s “not a workout”. I try to always keep active no matter what I’m doing, but at what point do we decide yoga is “not a workout” and just a healthy adjustment to the body. Too funny!

March 23, 2010 at 11:28 pmOh man, I’ve been craving really cheesy pizza lately — just got back from a long hike in the cold snow and rain and all I could think of was PIZZA. Had a cup of soup instead. 😀

March 24, 2010 at 12:04 amYou should toss your pizza onto the grill next time – sooooo good! It tastes like Neapolitan style pizza and is definitely worth testing it out!
Slow moving yoga is just as tough as power sometimes with those long held poses! It feels like time is just inching by in the muscles!

March 24, 2010 at 1:16 amI’ve never even heard of jicama…maybe I need a google date!?
Good luck on your long bike ride today!

March 24, 2010 at 3:54 amI love that cheesy, simple to make pizza. Yum!
Jicama has always been one of my favorite veggies. For some reason, it reminds me of family get togethers. We always have a crudite plate to nosh on, and jicama is usually involved.
Enjoy your bike ride!

March 24, 2010 at 4:13 ammmm look at the cheese on that! I love the idea of adding your own topping to the base, it looks so nice. Also that pig bar looks amazing too. I’m going to check it out for sure.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg
March 24, 2010 at 4:36 amMmmm, I love that TJ pizza dough. You should try the herb one if you haven’t already– it’s really tasty!
That pig chocolate is too cute.

March 24, 2010 at 4:52 amIt seems appropriate that there is a jumping pig on your fancy chocolate bar. I’m would have trouble not pigging out on it. I love mint infused chocolate.

March 24, 2010 at 4:53 amyum – cheesey pizza!
i just read a post saying all the reasons not to eat dairy….yeah, sounds legit…BUT,,i cannot do without my cheese and yogurt…sounds weird i guess…but love it!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
March 24, 2010 at 4:54 amThe pizza looks fantabulous! 😀
I’m the same way with yoga lately. I use it as more of a way to stretch out my tired, achy muscles on rest days. It’s still a mini-workout, but mostly I focus on getting limber and loose again. Love it! 😀
Becky @ flybynyght
March 24, 2010 at 4:55 amYour pizza looks delish!!! Your pizza is a good metaphor too (I know that’s what you were going for :P), sometimes simplicity is the easiest and the BEST.

March 24, 2010 at 5:09 amCarbo-loading is the best. That pizza looks incredible! And that truffle…. mmm, I love me some chocolate! =D

March 24, 2010 at 5:22 ammy bf got that chocolate truffle bar and swears by it…I should have made him give me a bite! I’ve had jicama at restaurants but never had the courage to buy it and prepare it myself. How do you chop that thing?

March 24, 2010 at 5:25 amThe pizza looks definitely amazing!

March 24, 2010 at 5:27 amGod – if I wasn’t soooo freaking full right now – I’d be all over that…i’d also eat the whole thing….and, oh yeah, the salad…
and agree with Heather – everyday day is a carbo day.

March 24, 2010 at 6:26 amHi Jenna! I’ve been reading your blog for a little while now and so I just wanted to comment to say hi. And to say that TJ’s pizza dough is the best — so cheap and so delicious! What kind did you have? If this is just the plain one, you’ve got to try the herb and whole wheat varieties…those are my favorites! 🙂

March 24, 2010 at 6:26 amthe pizza looks yummy!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman
March 24, 2010 at 6:29 amThe pizza looks great. I’m surprised Friday isn’t carb day, too. Because it’s just wrong not to eat pizza on a Friday. Or is that just me?
Stina @ Girl Can
March 24, 2010 at 6:33 amOkay, seriously, where is this illusive Trader Joe’s pizza dough?! I can never find it in my TJ’s! Of course my Trader Joe’s is always packed so I’m probably just missing it. All I ever find the is Tabula Rasa pre-made crusts.
Danielle (Coffee Run)
March 24, 2010 at 6:36 amYour homemade pizza looks perfect! Carb loading is def. necessary before a big exercise day 😉
Amanda @ Cakes and Ale
March 24, 2010 at 6:37 amI’ve had some trouble with the TJs pizza dough in the past. Did you bake it a little first before adding toppings? I’ve found that if I don’t, it doesn’t really get very crispy… in fact, the center stays a bit soggy!
I was using the whole wheat version though, so maybe it’s a different beast than the regular kind…

March 24, 2010 at 6:58 amUmm excellent reason to carbo-load! There is always a good reason to be found for pizza though, isn’t there?!

March 24, 2010 at 7:05 amI’ve never even heard of jicama. What can it be compared to?
Anais
March 24, 2010 at 7:06 amDo you cook the jicama or do you eat it raw?? I actually dreamed that I was eating jicama last night so now I really feel like I should get some 🙂
Those Truffle Pig bars are SO dangerous!!! My fave are the peanut butter one and the white chocolate raspberry ones 🙂

March 24, 2010 at 7:21 amFor some reason I love holding warrior 2 for minutes on end, but crescent lunge is a pain. There’s something almost peaceful about the warrior positions that I really like. My favorite pose is plow, though!

March 24, 2010 at 7:35 amThat pizza looks absolutely wonderful 🙂 I will most definately have to make some very soon!

March 24, 2010 at 10:37 amI’ve heard great things about Bay to Breakers, I think I might try to come out to the west coast for the 100th anniversary race next year.
I need to start working with some jicama. It’s good stuff.
