Sugar High

Hello, hello! Lots of exciting things to discuss. Get ready.

This morning I felt like I had a food hangover when I woke up. This is why I don’t eat too many burgers….I felt very “blehhhhhh” this morning and STARVING, which is the tell tale sign my food wasn’t really balanced last night. However, I remedied that with a big glass of water and a big bowl of overnight oats 🙂

IMG_8590

And then (after oatmeal digested!) did an hour of a Dave Farmar podcast in my pjs. Felt great to get twisting and moving!

Had an early lunch before heading in to work. I roasted a butternut squash until it almost caramelized and then ate half of it in chunks with a Trader Joe’s chicken burger smothered in hummus (and hot sauce..duh!) and an apple. It was really satisfying!

IMG_8591

Work was good…I can’t complain. The weather was freaking phenomenallllllll today (75 degrees and sunny) and I got to be outside all afternoon pouring Cabernet Franc at our event. I even got tan lines…felt right at home there. 😉 I did snack on a Pure bar while I was pouring but it missed the camera’s eye.

Had a glass of wine with my coworkers while we cleaned up and then got home around 6:30 and heated up a bowl of my potato leek soup with a little sheeps milk cheese melted in….with another apple! Looove honeycrisp.

And now, here comes the exciting stuff!

1. I found the BEST frozen yogurt place EVER in Healdsburg!!!!!

IMG_8594

IMG_8593

Okay, so get this: right when you walk into Yogurt Time you grab your own cup and you PORTION YOUR OWN FROZEN YOGURT AND ADD YOUR OWN TOPPINGS!!!!!!! Can you FEEL the excitement through the computer screen??!?!! I wish I could like grab your shoulders and tell you how cool this place is. They charge by weight so you can add as much or as little frozen yogurt to your cup, mix whatever you want, and go crazy with toppings! It’s like a big frozen yogurt bar. I think the girl that worked there thought I was a crazy person because I was literally jumping up and down with excitement. Plus, it’s SUPER cheap! I filled my cup with a mix of cookies n cream and reeses froyo and then on top added oreo and butterfinger pieces. A dream come true.

2. Mint.com is addicting (mom & dad are you reading this??!)

So, I’ve never really been good with money….or math…or numbers in general. My brain doesn’t work in dollar signs…I’m a writer, not an accountant! However, living on my own has made me very VERY aware of every single penny leaving my purse and Mint.com offers a free way to track your finances. It links to your bank account and you can add all your loan/credit card/car payments…everything…right in and it will always let you know how much you have and what your budget is looking like. I’m sort of obsessed.

3. I BOUGHT A CANON REBEL!!!!!!

51gZwAX6YvL._SL500_AA280_-2Oooohhhh my!!!!!!! I’ve wanted a dslr for a loooong time now and losing my camera charger was the final push I needed. Either I was going to have to go spend $50 on a new charger and then keep using my duck taped together camera that is half broken, or just make the plunge into dslr-land…… I chose the latter. Good thing I now use Mint.com to help me with my budget! 😉 I ordered my camera on Amazon.com with overnight shipping because, well, my point and shoot is basically DEAD and I don’t want to keep you guys in the dark without any pictures for the next week! I also ordered the cutest camera bag. So excited. Am going to stick with, and learn from, the general lens that the camera comes with and then probably upgrade next month to the 50 mm f/1.8. SO EXCITED!!!!!

Off to clean the house then read in bed!

Those are all very exciting!!! I have a slightly similar camera and really love it. I just checked out mint.com from your suggestion and it does look pretty cool! My husband is an accountant tho, so I think he’d be annoyed if I tried to show him…haha. 🙂 Enjoy your Sunday off!

Those type of yogurt places have gotten really popular here, too, over the past year. It’s so much fun to mix flavors and toppings. 🙂

    Wow that’s a lot of info 🙂

I loved mint when I first started using it. I now use mvelopes because I have more to take care of but mint was awesome.

I love the look of your new camera. I am always jealous of the beautiful pics that all the bloggers take with the fancy cameras. I need a new camera sometime in the future but don’t think I take enough pics for a DSLR.

That yogurt shop could be dangerous for me. I have a hard time at Whole Foods salad bar because I love it all. I think a yogurt bar with toppings would just be overkill. But looks delicious 🙂

Congrats on the new camera!! There’s a new yogurt place in Gainesville like that too! It’s called Mochi and they have a toppings bar and everything. It’s very bad at the end though when you end up spending $9 for your fro-yo and toppings hahaha. I OD’d on the sprinkles and fruit!

    Have a great Sunday :)))

We have a yogurt place like that here called swirls. It’s a tiny little place and I loved it during the summer. I’m a little worried it won’t make it through the winter with this economy. 🙁 Maybe I’ll pay them a visit tomorrow.

I totally understand the Yogurt freak-out. Here’s just about my favorite thing to do in Carmel [where I live]. Walk from the beach at the end of Ocean Ave all the walk down to Carmel River, then up past the marshes and around past Clint Eastwood’s Mission Inn, and to Carmel Mission. Light candles. THEN proceed to YOGURT HEAVEN at Carmel Crossroads Village. Put this in contacts when come to Carmel don’t want to miss this place. The large vanilla/choc swirl cup has about 120 calories and is delicious. I am not a junk-food person or snacker but love this.

Thanks for the camera and Mint.com tips. Enjoy your Sunday off.

Nice camera! I keep borrowing my roommates because i dont have a good one (its on my wishlist!).

Mint.com is really cool, but beware, it will not keep you up to date (day to day) on your finances. Think of it more updating you twice a week or once a week.

I love mint.com (for its statistics/reporting), but you can be slapped with some overdraft fees if you dont pay attention to your online bank statements too.

I told you you’d love 2 things getting to CA: 1) Trader Joe’s and 2) YogurtLand!!! =) You already love TJ’s and Santa Rosa/Sonoma County doesn’t have a YogurtLand chain yet, but really, any self-serve FroYo is AWESOME isn’t it?!?! Most places are $0.30/oz so its hard to not go overboard. I’m lovin’ the Fall flavors of pumpkin pie, gingerbread cookies, but can’t ever say no to PB or taro…
Is 7:34 am too early for Froyo??? 😉

Just thinking about a frozen yoghurt bar has my tummy rumbling. I think I will have to settle for a glass of kefir and OJ instead though, as it is COLD here and nobody in Newfoundland eats anything remotely healthy, so frozen yoghurt is not easy to find!

Wow. I LOVE Mint.com. I’ve been using Quicken online, but Mint definitely seems robust-er.

Also, is it possible you have dyscalculia? I think I do, although I haven’t been diagnosed or whatever, officially. It’s a bit like dyslexia, numbers get turned around in your head, (things like 96 become 69, multiple 000s are hard to keep track of…) it’s hard to tell left from right sometimes, and maps are VERY confusing.

  • Leslie

Another big fan of Mint here. Excellent service, I love having everything in one place and being able to see my overall spending by category. If you take the time to go through your transactions you can fine-tune your categories which is REALLY very helpful.
