Happy Monday!
I’m in a really great mood this morning despite sort of tossing and turning all night. Lots going on over here and I’m going to Boston on Thursday morning!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
I didn’t get to bed until rather late last night and I woke up with one thing on my mind: savory oatmeal.

Yesssssssssssssssss
I used 1/2 cup oats (cooked in 1 cup water), 1 slice reduced fat cheddar cheese, an over easy egg, morningstar farms soysage and……HOT SAUCE! obviously.

It was quite delicious. I highly recommend trying this if you haven’t already—sort of reminds me of the cheesy grits I used to get at my sorority house 🙂
In other news, the house is a zoo.

And both Dexter and Mikan slept on top of me last night. Dexter and Mikey DO NOT get along yet. I guess cats are funny when you put them together….especially male cats? Mikey is super possessive of Mikan, if you can believe it, and makes this awful bellowing and hissing noises whenever Dexter comes near. I’m sort of letting them just have at it though and slowly get used to each other.
After my food digests a bit I’m going to hit the gym and run a few errands. I only have one yoga class left in my package and I’m trying to ration it. 🙁
See y’all in a bit!

August 10, 2009 at 9:56 amNever even thought of savoury oats – but looks SO good. Glad you are in an upbeat mood despite tossing and turning 🙂 Wondering if you were thinking about organizing some sort of Boston run with blog followers on any of the mornings (or afternoons) that you’re going to be in town? Not sure where you’re staying but the Esplanade makes a great run, even just for a couple of miles. I know you’re there for business (well sort of!) though so pretty sure you have a packed program, but thought I would throw it out there anyway.

August 10, 2009 at 9:56 amyum your oats look amazing! I hope you have a wonderful day!

August 10, 2009 at 9:58 amI have some dogs who behave the same way, Maxine is very happy-go-lucky but the minute Duke starts to play with Max she goes ballistic. Max is hers and no one elses. It is so cute to see her put herself between them, barking and quarreling with Duke the whole time.

August 10, 2009 at 10:04 amIt’s going to be near 100 degrees in NYC today, but despite that I’m still craving hot and savory foods. I just had some olive oil granola. Mmm, salty!

August 10, 2009 at 10:13 amGood luck with the cats. If it helps, it took our two cats about 6-8 weeks living together to establish some sort of hierarchy and get things worked out. Try giving them both wet cat food or catnip or some other yummy treat when they’re near each other–it helps form positive associations!

August 10, 2009 at 10:28 amWait, like the cheese grits in the packet?? We had those at our sorority house, too! And marshmallow fluff… but that’s a different story.
Ha- that reminds me of my parents’ house! Two cats, two dogs. Total zoo.

August 10, 2009 at 10:39 amWe have two cats and they get along in the house, but if they’re outside on their leashes (yes, they have a leash!), they do NOT get along! It’s a space-invading thing, I guess. LOL!
I just can’t wrap my head around the savoury oat thing! Though I’ve never had grits before, so maybe that’s why. They do look yummy!

August 10, 2009 at 10:41 amYou make this oatmeal combo look so good! My parents house is also a zoo right now, they already have a Golden retriever and a shih tzu, but my friend brought her chow chow over while she is on vacation and my mom found a stray shih tzu last week. It’s pretty crazy over there!

August 10, 2009 at 11:57 amI’ve been meaning to try savoury oats for well over a year now and I STILL haven’t! I just naturally gravitate toward sweet oats covered in nut butter. It’s happening soon though, tomorrow maybe?
Have a great day Jenna!

August 10, 2009 at 12:10 pmIf you can, you might try confining Dexter to a room for a while. It helps to get him and Mikey used to each other’s scent without either one of them feeling threatened. We did this with our newest cat and within a day, he and the other cat were playing with each other underneath the door and the other cat was sleeping right outside the door to be close to him. When we let him out of the room (after 2 days), they instantly “knew” each other and have been best friends ever since.
Even though Dexter has been in the house with free roam for a while, it is still worth a try.
