Look who I found roaming around San Francisco!! π

Turns out Tina’s flight was super delayed so we kidnapped her and Mal for a little Tartine action. I don’t think they minded π

We had a blast in the city today. And Mal totally wins food blogger husband of the year for going out into oncoming traffic just to take the perfect photo. Yay Mal! π

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.
When at Tartine, Anne and I split a delicious slice of the pumpkin tea cake and I had the most fabulous cappuccino:

Gahhhhhhhhhhh I heart Tartine so much. Already planning a trip back Saturday. I feel like I’m always planning a trip back. Totally necessary.
After our major blogger rendezvous, Anne and I headed back up to wine country. Made a quick pit stop at the mall, in search of sparkly New Years Eve dresses but came up short. Bust.

We FINALLY made it home to Sonoma County after being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for almost two hours. We were HANGRY!!!!! Enter Willi’s Seafood.

We immediately ordered a bottle of Cuvee and many small plates…..

Started with bbq oysters:

Sauteed spinach:

Bacon wrapped scallops:

And, the winner of the evening was the clam and bacon flatbread. SO GOOD.

I pondered it…..

And then inhaled it.

It was actually so good we ordered two. And we continued to drink obscene amounts of wine.

And then Hardy showed up and things got even dirtier! π

We ate mussels and drank more vino:

After closing the restaurant down, we finally made our way home. Anne scooped up Dexter and we are about to cuddle.

We must get our beauty sleep now. Bikram in the morning followed by a full day of wine tasting. G’nite!!

I was wondering…is the seafood restaurant close to your home? “Drinking obscene amounts of wine” and then driving doesn’t seem like a grand idea…Im not attacking you, just pondering…

Hardy’s expression is priceless.
Yeah, bumper-to-bumper, I deal with that everyday…it plain ole’ SUCKS. Blah.

When you eat out Jenna – do you usually have a particular thing in mind or go with the flow and just order whatever?? Your choices are always interesting!

December 30, 2009 at 5:35 amSo. Much. Fun! But how in the heck can you afford to eat out so much? I know that the wine alone would set me back a pretty penny, not to mention the food that looks so delicious and “high-end!”
Totally jealous. Live it up, girl!

December 30, 2009 at 5:42 amYou sure do drink a lot…it’s been painful to watch this health concious gal on the brink of adulthood regress into a habitual drinker without much care for her health and those of others (drivers!) or her reputation as a writer. I hope the new year brings you some perspective on your lifestyle, Jenna. The title of your blog is entirely misleading to new readers and the new direction is a disappointment to former readers. It’s a stretch to classify your eating style as healthy. And, you do not run.

December 30, 2009 at 8:11 am@Katie,
You don’t know Jenna personally, neither do I. If you don’t like the way she lives her life, stop reading. Or, take a second a think what this girl has been through in her life this past year. Do you have any idea what it’s like to lose a brother? I do, and it totally and completely changes you–you stop worrying about being ‘perfect’ all the time and realize that life is so much more. Can’t you see how much she is embracing and enjoying her life right now? She is living it to the fullest, and for some people, that means enjoying great wine, great food, great company. It’s not like she sits her in apartment and downs bottles at a time. And last time I checked, there’s nothing misleading about the title of “eat, live, run.” Jenna IS eating–glorious, amazing, local specialties. And after all the heartache she and her family have had to suffer, look at this beautiful girl who IS living–each day to the fullest, surrounding herself with some of life’s most amazing gifts and pleasures–people, food, scenery, God. And, if you really are a longtime reader, you know this girl can RUN. Just because she hasn’t been recently doesn’t mean anything, and it’s unfair for you to judge her so harshly unless you are part of her life everyday.
Katy @ These Beautiful Feet

December 30, 2009 at 8:21 amUh, I agree with the above girl …Katie – this isn’t YOUR blog – you have no right to tell someone how to live or how to write. she’s not writing it for YOU. December 30, 2009 at 8:42 am“…itβs unfair for you to judge her so harshly unless you are part of her life everyday.”
Really? I do agree that you cannot “judge” someone without knowing them personally, perhaps, but this is a blog. If you have a comments section, then are people not allowed to voice dissenting opinions?
It seems that if even one poster has something other to say than “Yum!” “Beautiful oatmeal!” or “You look great-where is your sweater from?” then about a dozen followers jump on their back.
Whether you agree with Katie or not, she was simply posting her opinion. I would think that authors of these food/lifestyle blogs would respect posters rather than mocking them (on Twitter, etc.) and maybe address their comments in a rational way. I agree that Katie could have worded some parts of her post differently/more politely, but she was voicing an opinion that I would be willing to bet at least SOME of Jenna’s readers (maybe secretly) share.
When you have a blog (and profit from said blog), why would you not expect a reader to criticise anything you ever write/do? Does it not come with the territory?
Jenna, I don’t think you have a booze problem and I do love that you are having a good time. It IS a departure from your previous “lifestyle” and that is what she was commenting on. I personally think you should adddress things/posts/questions on the blog when people bring them up, if they are presented in a respectful way.
Just my $.02

December 30, 2009 at 8:55 amTo all:
I’m sorry if anything on my blog offends you. I’ve been posting every meal now for over two years and pretty much opening my whole life to the world online. It’s not always perfect or pretty and I never promised anyone anything. Though I love what I do, it can get stressful because I do feel like I have a certain image to upkeep and feel pressure to do so from time to time. I’m a real person, just like everyone else. I’ve always stressed moderation in everything and I see no problem in having a fun night with a girlfriend involving a few glasses of wine. I like wine, bacon pizza and fried chicken and see nothing wrong with that if you can enjoy these things in moderation. If anyone has issues, then there are hundreds of other “healthy blogs” out there that you can read instead of mine.

December 30, 2009 at 9:56 amPersonally, I am tired of bloggers having to explain themselves to their readers. This is what makes me delete half of what I want to write at times, as I don’t want to have to explain my reasons for feeling or doing the things I do.
This isn’t required reading, and while I think all opinions (when voiced in a respectful manner) are welcome and butt-kissing gets annoying, what do people hope to accomplish by adding in only criticism? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with questions, but questioning character is something entirely different.
Cheers to your blog, other blogs and the places they may go!

December 30, 2009 at 10:19 amHi Jenna,
I’ve been quietly following your blog for about a year now. I just wanted to let you know that lately(as in the past month or so) you have been looking so very happy, beautiful and healthy. December 30, 2009 at 10:34 amHey Jenna,
I’ve been reading your blog for a couple months now, along with some of the others of your friends. I think everyone’s blog is unique – as they should be as they are all written by different people. BUT I do find that I identify with yours and enjoy hearing about someone that will eat a whole cookie and not just 1/4, or drink a bottle of wine if she feels like it. Why? Because I’m 22, I like to party and run marathons. Sometimes those are hard to balance…and moderation is always key. Then again I don’t plan to be 35 and partying all the time… but you’re only young once! Anyways, drink what you want, eat what you want, and do what you want. Thanks for sharing it with us all!

December 30, 2009 at 12:07 pmJenna,
You are happy and healthy and that’s all that matters. You live in WINE COUNTRY where drinking wine is a way of life. Enjoy it. I’m sure many, if not all, your bloggers would love to be in your shoes, but you got yourself there b/c YOU’re the one who deserves it. Also, “eat, live, run” is an appropriate title for the blog, b/c anyone with the slightest bit of intuition should know that you are literally eating and living (obvi) and that running is in support of exercise. id say doing yoga six times a week is plenty of exercise.

December 30, 2009 at 12:17 pmJenna,
do you. there’s such a fine balance to obtain when responding to commentors. i hate that you have to defend yourself. just keep your composure and don’t let them ruffle your feathers like this. you have great instincts and as long as you are being true to yourself, don’t let them get you down or alter what you write. enjoy yourself! there are many of us, myself included, that would love to enjoy a day in your life.

December 30, 2009 at 7:37 pm@Katie–Sounds like someone is a little jealous of Jenna’s success…Jenna has always been honest about what she eats everyday and THAT’S what makes readers come back here for more–she’s a REAL girl who shares every moment of her life with us. Seriously, LIGHTEN UP. Can’t a girl live a little??? You’re only in your twenties once…you gotta live it up!!
Katie, I’m afraid I have this strong feeling that you are a thirty-something mother of small children who is bitter they didn’t live out their 20s the way Jenna is–fearlessly pursuing her dreams and not being afraid to embrace life in full force. Sorry, but that’s how it comes off. Why don’t you go read another blog if you’re looking for someone who eats carrot sticks for every meal and lives in the gym? kthxbai.
I support you Jenna 100%…don’t let the haters get to you π

December 30, 2009 at 9:18 pmI always love reading your posts, especially since you moved to my “City by the Bay”. I know Santa brought you that great t-shirt–any idea where Santa shopped? I look forward to a “Must visit” winery list as I plan a weekend in wine country this spring with some friends. Please try Delphina and Bi-Rite Creamery, just down the block from Tartine. You will enjoy them both!!!

December 31, 2009 at 8:16 amComments like Katie’s and anony make me sad because I hope it doesn’t deter you from being honest and open-that is what 99% of us love about your blog. And I don’t agree just because you blog, mean spirited and spiteful comments are acceptable. Since when is being rude ok? I don’t care if you have opened your life to the public, you are a human being and people should be respectful. You are an amazing woman and an inspiration to everyone. Many women in your situation would NEVER have had the courage to do what you have done after what you have been through. Sadly, you represent what many people are scared of and will never do, and that brings resentment. I am an atheist and you are a devoted Christian, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy your blog because you and I differ in one aspect of your lifestyle. It’s your fricking life! I am just lucky to get to take a peek. To all the haters- get a life and take your negativity elsewhere! We love you Jenna : )
